We twirl sticks - it's totally macho

For those interested (and in the Provo area next weekend), the BYU DanceSport Championships will be rocking occasions Friday and Saturday. Tons of awesome dancers (and even some world class professionals) will be competing and performing. I will be competing in 5 different class events (I will be dancing a quickstep, waltz, samba, rumba, and triple-swing).

I love to dance! I went to the folk dance try-outs a year ago and got onto one of the teams. That first semester was a blast, and I learned how worthwhile dancing could be. I've since tried tap, clog, jazz, contemporary, and ballroom. It is an immensely expressive art form with many different flavors, and it's thrilling to tell a story by dancing.

As of late, I am giving a lot of thought about what dancing means to me and how I can use it in my life. I do not know yet which direction to go, but I am excited for the opportunities I have.

Dancing is rewarding, but in my opinion there is no other form of expression as powerful as singing. The insight a skilled singer can bestow is unlike and more exquisite than anything else I know of. The voice can communicate eternal truths from one soul to another.

I suppose my goal in this short thought is to persuade you to recognize, and more closely analyze, the capacity that song and dance have to influence man to realize what he was, what he is, and what he can be.
