A fondness for Corn Nuts is growing in me

Two weeks ago at FHE, we decided as a family group that it was appropriate to have an early Thanksgiving dinner. So, yesterday when we met, a list was passed around so we could say what we would bring as apartments. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other common Thanksgiving foods were listed, minus one crucial part. TURKEY! The list maker claimed to have excluded the central part of the Thanksgiving meal because "meat is expensive." I promptly replied by volunteering to provide meat for Turkey day.
The dinner will be at my apartment, so I will be spending Monday afternoon making my first turkey. I would love comments and suggestions for preparing a great turkey, but I will ultimately seek my own mom's advice (she knows the hour is fast approaching). I will post my success (!) after the big day.
To Margot, I may need to borrow a roasting pan.

yes! You have your dad in you. He still does everything from scratch.I remember with fondness calling my mom (still do) with questions about making that first Thanksgiving meal. Moms know everything! If you have it in your heart and mind that you want to make it from scratch, great! Otherwise. I noticed that Maceys (or was it Walmart?) Carries roasted turkey breast in the Deli Section. It's roasted like they do the whole chickens. It was $9.99. Might be a little pricey but worth the time you'd spend roasting your own turkey-considering you'll have classes that day too. I also think there would be less mess to deal with after. Were you thinking of coking a whole turkey or just a turkey breast? I would call ahead to make sure they have some or hold one for you. Other people may have the same idea for FHE!
